Sore Muscles? Let Air Do The Work

Did anyone ever mention that air is great for recovery? Yep, I hear your scorn. Sounds ridiculous.

Well, it’s a thing, and it’s quite a remarkable thing at that.

Air Relax is a digitally controlled air pressure system which provides dynamic compression to limbs. Comprising full-leg ‘boots’ which surround the whole leg, the system then applies compression through air pressure, with a range of settings and pressure modes available.

The science

So you might look a little ridiculous with large inflatable legs, but it’s got some science-y backing that could well make it worth it.

As athletes, we are naturally interested in reducing our recovery time following hard training or races. Well, Air Relax claims that air compression can achieve just that. A myriad of scientific studies which have shown that lymphatic therapy provides physiological changes that lead to improved muscular recovery. With a pump which can flush lactic acid out of the muscles, Air Relax delivers that natural sequential compression on behalf of the lymphatic system, flushing away toxins which, when built up, can lead to soreness and fatigue in the muscles.

How does it work?

Consisting of four air chambers which focus on the various areas along the length of the legs, and with four different pressure settings, Air Relax provides air compression which can be fully controlled by the user. Cue, sat on the sofa with a cuppa and the boots on, and the control system at your fingertips.

Each session lasts 15 minutes, but you can double up sessions for enhanced recovery after more intense training or races. In fact, we recommend two sessions – it feels too good to take them off after just 15 minutes!

Professional athletes are turning to this type of product as it’s easily accessible, can be used anytime quickly and easily, and after the initial investment in the kit, requires no ongoing costs – unlike regular massages.

What’s more, the kit is portable enough to take with you on training camps and races.

What does it cost?

At just £579 for a set, which is certainly a reasonable investment and less expensive than some of the other market competitors, this piece of essential kit could be just what’s missing from your recovery strategy.
